Art Sessions

Hi, welcome to my blog:

I have discovered a new passion - I love making Christmas cards!  After taking a few courses at Sisterhood (card making and quilling), I have been very busy creating cards.  In fact, I have been so occupied with this, I have not had time to work on any pen and ink or coloured pencil projects - however, over the winter, I will be working with both my pens and my coloured pencils.  I will be posting new work in the spring.

Even though I have been otherwise occupied, the girls in my art sessions have been creating lovely paintings, and I would like to show a couple to you.

The following paintings were done by Marie.  They were both done on 12 x 24 canvas.  Marie prefers to do all her painting with oils - even the background is created with various shades of oil paint.
The first picture was designed by Doxie Keller, and can be found in her book 'Trendy Textures' (a lovely book - it has had lots of use during our painting sessions).  Texture Crackle was applied to the canvas to create a textured background, and then various shades of black, grey and white oils were added.  Marie applied the background paint with a sponge.  The rest of the piece was completed in oils and the stencils were added as a final touch.  The completed picture is lovely.

This piece is very similar to the above - the pattern was designed by Tracy Moreau and is called Copper and Gold Poppies.  Although the instructions for this piece call for acrylics, Marie chose to use oils.  Once again she applied Texture Crackle to the canvas, and then applied her background colours with oil paint.  The diamond shapes in the background were then stenciled on, and the rest of the painting was applied with oil paints.  Another beautiful creation by Marie.

If you are looking for something to keep you occupied over the winter please visit Sisterhood Crafts and Supplies, 1035A Pembroke Street East, Pembroke.  They offer classes in a number of areas, including:
painting, card making, quilling, knitting, crocheting, mixed media....and I expect to return next spring to teach pen and ink with rouged oils.

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a great New Year.

Thank you for visiting my blog.
